We support the resignation of San Antonio Zoo Director, Mr. Stephen McCusker

To whom it may concern,
We, the undersigned, support the actions of One World Conservation regarding their letter to the San Antonio Zoological Society Board of Directors on February 18, 2011, which calls for the resignation of Zoo Director, Stephen McCusker. We support them for the following reasons :
Lack of transparency and accountability
Failure to provide safe and adequate conditions for animals
A string of animal deaths over the last six months
The USDA has cited the zoo for violations, some of which put both animals and the public at risk
The zoo has not acted in the best interest of the Asian elephants, Lucky and Boo
Lack of responsiveness to citizens and the community
The zoo has attracted negative attention to itself, both nationally and internationally
Given unending controversy, premature deaths of critically endangered species,documented substandard conditions for the animals, and a total disconnect from the public and its valid concerns regarding animal welfare, One World Conservation is calling for a change in zoo direction and management, starting with the resignation and replacement of Zoo Director, Stephen McCusker. This is critical for the future of the zoo, its animals, and the people of San Antonio.

We, the undersigned, understand the seriousness of our request, and assure the board that it is not made lightly and do so with all due respect. We ask that the board of directors take our position seriously and take action by the removal of the San Antonio Zoo Director, Stephen McCusker.

San Antonio Zoo Director Stephen McCusker seems to have no compassion for the welfare of the animals in the San Antonio Zoo. I would like to see the elephant, Lucky, go to a refuge of some kind where she can live out her life in a setting where she's free to be a part of a herd and wander a large space with other elephants.
San Antonio needs a zoo director that cares about the animals. Stephen McKuster clearly does not.
The treatmentof captive elephants has always been such a tortured topic for me. The inhumanity we show these gentle creatures shames all of us. Texas gets enough slams and attacks for backward ways and insensitivity. Please don't add mor fuel to the fire. Mr. McCusker should quietly resign. As for the zoo Board and the remaining management, they should not just 'let' welfare experts in their doors; they should be damn glad they are not rallying to close them, permanently.
Yes! We need someone who cares and will give these amazing animals a much much much better life than the horriable life they are living now. I refuse to go to the zoo. I don't want to in anyway shape or form support this orginazation. Something huge needs to happen to right these wrongs and FAST!
San Antonio is a major tourist destination. The zoo management is having a seriously negative impact on the the citys image. The Board of Directors needs to do the right thing and vote McCusker out! Now!
Surely, sir, you must be aware of Lucky's plight, and surely it is in your power to do the right thing for her. The question is why won't you let her go? Where is your heart?

Surely, sir, you must be aware of Lucky's plight, and surely it is in your power to do the right thing for her. The question is why won't you let her go? Where is your heart?
