Candlewood Lake is 730' from the facility.. If you remove the trees the mountain becomes soil over ledge. It only takes one strong rain storm to send sediment in to Candlewood Lake

Taxes for this project, according to the town record, start at $75,000 and are just hit $80,000 after 5 years. That does not even cover the cost of one town employee with benefits and pension for one year. The mayor broke the tie at the vote earlier this year. He also wrote a letter of support that is included in Petition 1312 on the Siting Council website. The power goes to the northeast grid so you won't see it reducing your utility bills. The jobs are only for clear cutting and stumping and maybe maybe for installing the panels and racks. Construction is 6-8 months and after that minimally maintained.

Hi Sue. Once Town Council voted to grant Candlewood Solar a tax abatement the project went directly to the Ct Siting Council for approval and was able to sidestep the town committees because it is a Utility/Energy plant. CS is petitioning for No Environmental Review. Absurd considering Candlewood Mountain is in the Natural Diversity Data Base- all of it. The town wouldn't allow houses to be built up there for environmental reasons, why this project?

As an ex 30 year resident on the lake, this would be horrific. There are other areas it could go without stripping the mountain!

Save the trees! They are beautiful and clean the air as well as prevent erosion and provide habitats for many birds and animals

Its pathetic that people think they will have to choose between a bad housing development or a bad solar utility power plant. Where's your backbone! A BAD plan is just that-a BAD plan. The Dunham Farm project was poorly engineered and they failed because Zoning was smart enough to listen to experts and would not allow it. This solar utility power plant is a bad plan as well. Unfortunately after the Town Council granted tax abatement where Ameresco will pay a mere $2.7million over 20 yrs instead of $6.147million --a loss of $3.4 million to the town, it went directly to the CT Siting Council. Ameresco is petitioning the Siting Council for NO ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW!! So you think its ok for them to just clear cut a mountain thats is in its entirety a part of the Natural Diversity Data Base. Its in there because it is a vast wildlife habitat that we will not let Ameresco diminish. Lets talk about pulling the stumps of over 15,000 trees out with ledge underneath. Stormwater experts fear one heavy rainstorm will have runoff reaching Candlewood Lake which is 730 feet!!! from the project and 360 feet from the interconnect. Also note that the applicant has increased the size of the clear cut from 68 to 72 acres and increased the farmland portion from 12-14 now to 16! And this is only phase 1... The Town gets zero benefits of the power as it goes directly to the Northeast Grid. The Town has No Jobs after manual labor to clear cut and install panels originally stated as 6 months but now estimating 8 months There is a hum from the panels during daylight and we are having our experts review the noise portion of petition 1312 and the updated Q and A from August 28th. The Applicant was trying to offer all land trusts and possibly the DEEP what they said was an equivalent land swap but that is not true. They will only offer unusable land!!! All are wise to this ploy except you!!!! It will not mitigate the damage to the land, wildlife and scenery and nearby resour

Fact : The solar project will go directly to the grid Fact : The apartment project was rejected by the town over 20 years ago! Fact : There is no chance of apartments being built on this property. Please completely review and post the entire history and not just snippets to support your opinion. Fact : This project is not hidden during the months of October through May. Fact : There is NO plan to reforest the disturbed site. Fact : The donation of 100 acres of land will not occur until after the twenty year project ends Please, do NOT be misled into believing that by supporting this solar project you are choosing the lesser of two evils. Prior to any core forest being destroyed or wildlife habitat, all available brownfield areas and municipal rooftops should be utilized. This project is for profit of the energy company, please see it for what it is. Don't be fooled.

THE FACTS - This project will power 2,500 homes. Current zone permits a large apartment project five (5) stories high. Property taxes will increase by 705%. No Town services will ever be needed. No noise. No pollution. The developer will donate an adjacent 100-acres to a land conservation trust which will include the "Blue Trail" and "Kelly's Slide". The project is completely hidden from public view. In 20-years all equipment will be removed and the site can be reclaimed as forest or pasture.

Use abandoned land and structures rather that denuding this beautiful natural forest.

Please do not clear Candlewood Mountain.

We don't need any more development! Reuse the old abandoned sites! Leave some nature for our next generation!

Candlewood Mountain and the surrounding towns are the most beautiful resort areas in the state. Its a New England wooded setting with a special country charm . There are few areas left like this in Ct. and Mass. that are within driving distance of New York City Already there is over crowding of ugly strip malls, commercial free standing buildings and poorly zoned vacation homes Don't ruin Candlewood Mountain for the commercial benefit of a developers.

Say No to cutting down 70 acres of mature forest on a mountain. Doesn't sound too "Green", but more for company profit.
