Bandai's Gunpla Builder World Cup is the ultimate Gunpla contest, drawing talented, creative and dedicated builders in each country together to show their love for Gunpla. The contest is currently divided into 3 main age groups: under 14, under 20 and over 21. Historically, the older age groups, Under-20 (U20) and Over-21 (O21), would attract the most skillful modelers. For each age group, the contest is comprised of two phases. In the first phase, at the national level, the contestants are judged and scored based on craft, painting and idea. Three best contestants are picked based on the overall score. In each age group, the first-place winners, often called Champions, are the names and faces of the best of their country to enter the second phase, the international competition. The final world Champions are decided under the same scoring system.

In Vietnam, Go Hobby Vietnam is the current Bandai's representatives. In June 2022, they announced that Bandai already set the 8th of July as the deadline to submit the competition entry, just a little over a month to build. Many builders thought that was too short to prepare their builds for such a contest. They later changed the deadline to the 31st of July with an announcement on the 7th of July, just a day before the first deadline. They cited that Bandai made such hasty decision based on their appeal. At that point, many just submitted their entries since they already planned out mentally and financially to finish on such date. Fast forward to the exhibition day, they made it clear in the rules that the entries should be physically brought to the exhibition as the requirement for the judging and scoring. Many from different parts of the country painstakingly packed their entries, flew in, and reassembled their builds just in time for the submission on the day before the main exhibition as specified by the email from Go Hobby. The Gunpla exhibition was organized in a small room with no protective measure for the larger pieces. A lot of dioramas were left out, exposed to the elements. Later, as Go Hobby Vietnam announced the winners in each age group, they did not share the scoring of the winners; they only shared Mr. Kawaguchi’s comments on the winning builds in their online post. It turned out a few of these winners did not even bring their entries to the exhibition; case in point, the first-place winner of the O21 group, among others, did not submit his build to the exhibition. When pointed out this mistake, Go Hobby apologized and rescinded their decision on the O21's champion. They announced that a rejudging and rescoring would be done later. They finally decided to move the 2nd and 3rd place winners up while picked a new third place winner citing that they have discussed the matter with Bandai. In short, Go Hobby Vietnam has done a great disservice to the Vietnam Gunpla Community during the GBWC 2022 event.

It is our opinion that these winners' entries in the U20 and O21 categories do not truly reflect the skills, dedication and pride of the Vietnam Gundam community. Whether it was Bandai or Go Hobby Vietnam's judging and scoring, we believe the current ruling deeply affect our community as a whole and we would like to file a Motion for Reconsideration. To Bandai officials, please rejudge and rescore our Under-20 and Over-21 entries to select the more representative winners that our community can be proud. Thank you!

Bandai's Gunpla Builder World Cup là cuộc thi Gunpla tầm cỡ nhất thế giới, thu hút các modeler tài năng, sáng tạo và tận tâm ở mỗi quốc gia cùng nhau thể hiện tình yêu của họ đối với Gunpla. Cuộc thi hiện được chia thành 3 nhóm tuổi chính: dưới 14, dưới 20 và trên 21. Về mặt lịch sử, các nhóm tuổi lớn hơn, Dưới 20 (U20) và Trên 21 (O21), sẽ thu hút những modeler khéo léo nhất. Đối với mỗi lứa tuổi, cuộc thi bao gồm hai giai đoạn. Trong giai đoạn đầu, ở cấp quốc gia, các thí sinh được đánh giá và cho điểm dựa trên thủ công tạo hình, kỹ thuật sơn và ý tưởng. Ba thí sinh xuất sắc nhất được chọn dựa trên điểm tổng. Ở mỗi nhóm tuổi, những người đoạt giải nhất, thường được gọi là Nhà vô địch, là những cái tên và gương mặt với tác phẩm xuất sắc nhất của mỗi quốc gia để bước vào giai đoạn hai, cuộc thi quốc tế. Các nhà vô địch thế giới cuối cùng được quyết định theo cùng một hệ thống tính điểm.

Tại Việt Nam, Go Hobby Vietnam hiện là đại diện của Bandai. Vào tháng 6 năm 2022, họ thông báo rằng Bandai đã ấn định ngày 8 tháng 7 là thời hạn cuối cùng để gửi bài dự thi, chỉ có hơn một tháng để xây dựng. Nhiều modeler nghĩ rằng quá ngắn để chuẩn bị các công trình của họ cho một cuộc thi như vậy. Sau đó, họ đã thay đổi thời hạn thành ngày 31 tháng 7 với thông báo vào ngày 7 tháng 7, chỉ một ngày trước thời hạn đầu tiên. Họ viện dẫn rằng Bandai đã đưa ra quyết định vội vàng như vậy dựa trên kháng cáo của họ.
