I believe that the Madison Board of Education (BOE) should rescind its decision to give Gary Lane tenure based on one or more of the following reasons:
1) Mr. Lane has only been in his position for 7 months, and he has not had time to demonstrate his ability to effectively fulfill his job responsibilities, which include managing the budget and working effectively with a wide constituency, not just the BOE.
2) With the district facing at least $1.2M in budget cuts to accommodate state mandated decisions, providing tenure to an untested, new senior staff member is inappropriate.
3) The BOE has not received the benefit of thoughtful consideration by a permanent superintendent, as a search has been underway for the superintendent for the past 7 months.

Ridiculous. We dont even have a permanent super yet. Stop rushing these decisions before the money is totally gone.

7 months is way too soon for tenure. its irresponsible to lock someone in when we are staring down such massive budget cuts. do better for the kids.
