Restore Edmonton's Democracy: Rescind. Rethink. Redo

The three storey four plex with four secondary suites on 62nd Street is a disgrace. This is a designated historical neighborhood.

These structures are ridiculous. They take up all the yard space, provide no parking, destroy neighbourhood culture., ruin your neighbour’s back yard. This needs to stop now!

We need responsible rezoning!! This is absurd and ruining neighbourhoods.

We are very unhappy that the city has such disregard for the character of old neighborhoods. Infill is great but it needs to be reasonable

The infill homes being built are ridiculously huge and negatively impact our neighborhoods. Stop the madness

And a new city council. These morons need ousting to send a message. Ashley Salvador, Mike Jan's, etc etc. Out out out.

I'm concerned with the current infill developments which has serious flaws. Therefore, I am support this petition.

I am so tired of City Council and Development Board. We don't have a voice when it comes to what we want to see in our neighborhoods. I do support responsible urban growth but this is getting out of hand. Absolutely no rules in place for developers. It needs to stop!

A massive new build is going in across the street from me. It removes trees and green space and dwarfs the houses on either side. It is ludicrous overbuild in what is otherwise a quiet residential area.

Unmanaged densification is destroying our environment. Removing uncounted mature trees, and tearing down perfectly good and well-built homes- without requiring recycling of materials - all have steep environmental costs that don’t seem to be considered. The poorly built, slapped together replacements may house people in the short term, but these builds definitely won’t last 50, 60, 70 years. Who counts the costs of these actions?

Concerned that all trees are removed from private property to build 8 units. No room left for parking. Since McKernan was once a lake how will these basement suites handle a flood?

I also disagree with narrowing of streets, especially the bus routes, with warriors pillars and large speed bumps. I also disagree with the installation of bike paths on both sides of the road which further narrows the road when our neighborhood doesn't have that large of a biking population. Too many units on 1 property cause neighborhood parking issues. No provision for low mobility neighbors and potholes is more of an issue than speed.

Consaultations help build framework for community trust.

While I absolutely support growth and increasing density (especially as it relates to increasing affordable housing) overall, rezoning should be done thoughtfully, transparently, and with meaningful community input to ensure related infrastructure and services is or will be put in place to support the increased population. Long-term, failing to do so is a disservice to both old and new residents alike.

Rushed blanket rezoning suggests that decision-makers in government & administration couldn't achieve their desires through the normal democratic processes. So, whose interests are being served?

This new rezoning will destroy McKernan Community

I grew up in the university area and am sad to see it being transformed by high priced infill projects. These are not helping with affordable housing and are destroying the character of the city (variety of housing and history). There is a better solution.

The city is out of control with the changes to the zoning bylaw and some change need to happen. Our community does not want or need any of the 8 plex buildings that are going up. Change needs to happen before our community is forever changed.
