The city finally blinked and cancelled the race. It is a win for common sense over the ego of the NYRR and the Mayor. We stood our ground against their tone-deaf greed and won.
Runners can run, any place, any time. If ING, Rudins, NYRR want to donate money they can. How can runners run through the torn up neighborhoods of this suffering city and not stop to lend a helping hand. The hard working residents of this great city can't even get through it to keep a job, open an office, get gas, buy groceries. It is the ultimate slap in the face to have 45,000 runners run through each borough with their paths cleared of destruction! I guess the Mayor isn't looking to find a loop hole for another term!
The Mayor and NYRR are still trying to force this marathon through our broken streets while residents struggle to find food and fuel. This race is an insult to every person digging their neighborhood out of the wreckage. We are not letting them ignore the reality of this city just to protect their bottom line.

Are you kidding me? People have no power and no heat and you want to close down the streets for a race. Cancel it now.

My neighborhood is completely destroyed and we are literally struggling to eat. This is so tone deaf.

This is disgusting. My street is a mess and you guys are worried about marathon logistics.

So insensitive. People are suffering but let's just make sure the runners have a clear path? Ridiculous.

Focus on the recovery effort instead of this nonsense.
