Bike helmets are used as safety gear that can easily protect someone from serious head trauma if ever in a bike accident. However, not a lot of university students wear a bike helmets when riding their bikes around campus. This problem needs to be solved because students are putting themselves in harm’s way because they fail to wear the most basic of safety gear while riding a bike.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire needs to change the Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan to include some of the key recommendations that are listed. This is because students on campus need to start wearing bike helmets in order to protect from possibly serious brain damage. One recommendation that should be seen through is to have a bike registration system. If the University made it required for students who ride their bike and store it on campus to register their bike, it could also require those students that are registered to wear bike helmets on campus.

This petition is meant to change the rules on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s campus to protect its students. There are many excuses not to wear a bike helmet, such as someone doesn't want one, doesn't have one, or simply doesn't feel the need to wear one at all times. However, are these excuses really worth a life?
