I/we propose the City of Cumming and the County of Forsyth add a small sign to the bottom of all the "Cumming City Limits" and "Welcome to Forsyth Co.." signs that simply states "Home of Junior Samples".

This is common practice all across the state of Georgia and the other 49 states as well. From athletes, musicians, sports teams, celebrities, "Home of the Dogwood Festival '', and even "Home of the World's Largest Frying Pan". There was something that put that place on the map at some point in time. Whether it was an obscure blues musician in 1920s Mississippi, or birthplace of Lucille Ball in upstate NY...dead and gone, they are remembered and introduced to new generations of folks through this signage, while simultaneously having their memory respected by said city or community.

Junior Samples is a nationally recognizable part of our Forsyth County history here, and with all the different cultures moving in and the "out of towners" passing through here on a daily basis, what better way to introduce them to our county history that under normal circumstances, they would never know?

While many celebrities have called Forsyth Co. home through the years, they were here for a short time, then moved away...or they may live here now, but were born somewhere else. Junior lived here from birth to death. This is what differentiates him from other local celebrities who were, and are, only temporary residents.

Prior to the construction of Lake Lanier and the extension of Ga 400 through the middle of our county from Atlanta in the 1970s, we were primarily a small rural community. There is a strong base of those rural people and their children and grandchildren still living, working and worshipping here every day. That way of life, and any signs of its existence are rapidly disappearing. Junior was not only a national celebrity, but also one person that embodied the historical aspect of the county, that we not just want to remember, but not be forgotten.

We're not asking to building a 2 billion dollar hockey arena...I may be out of touch with reality, but I'm guessing 20-30 small duplicate signs could be made for less than a couple thousand dollars??

Thank you for your time and consideration.
