The breed is in jeopardy from money breeders and dog farmers producing anything at all that they can call Alaskan Klee Kai. Help preserve the intent of the developer and keep the standard as intended

The UKC does not offer "limited registration" where there is a checkbox if the dog can be bred or not. According to the AKKAOA they have no control of the standard, and the standard changed without any of them knowing it was going to happen. The UKC owns the standard, also unlike the AKC. The Eliminating Faults section was added in 2009 many of the AKKAAO membership has been waiting for something to be done. It is my understanding as of yesterday they are in discussions about this matter. Hopefully if enough people raise a voice something will be done.

The breeders know what should be done to preserve the integrity of the breed standards, they should be heard and their knowledge respected.

The Standard has not been updated since May, 2012. The Eliminating faults were there at that time. I thought the breed club controlled the breed standard, just like in AKC. UKC, just like AKC, is a registry and does not police breeders. Since American Eskimo Dog is part of the breed, white dogs will surely pop up. BYB's will (of course) try to produce these white AKK as "rare color" and sell them as such. They don't care whether they can be shown or not. We have the same problem in Danes that are off color. We have very specific color standards in Danes, but that doesn't stop BYB's from selling brindlequins, fawnequins, blue fawn, etc as "rare colors". The public does not understand that the registry only records parentage, and a registered dog only guarantees that you have a member of that breed whose parentage can be traced. It does not mean that the dog is healthy, lacks genetic faults, or should be bred. It is up to the responsible breeders to place their pet quality puppies on limited registration so that puppies from those pets cannot be registered. If AKKAOA wants to change the standard, it will need to make the changes, vote on it, and present the updated standard to UKC.

breeders have worked so hard to create and improve the AKK, they are the most unique breed I have ever known, please don't let this action damage this beautiful, special breed

Eliminating faults are a mockery of the hardwork and dedication put in by the breeders!

lets keep the hard work and dedication with our breed going. Rules and standards are there for a reason and if we let one person slip, then others will follow and all the hard work that was put into this breed will be erased.

Please UKC, our breed as a whole is very young compared to most, as a breeder we must PRESERVE THE BREED so future generations can see this breed as how they are meant to. Past and current breeders work tremendously hard to produce pups that are excellent representations of the breed!

How can our community hold breeders to a higher standard when the written "authority" does not? It is sad to me that UKC seems to be out of sync with what is best for the breed.

the breeders of this amazing breed have worked decades to weed out health and other issues. we must not allow UKC to continue allowing disqualifying traits to be bred!

Please do not destroy what has taken years to perfect! I love AKK and the standard is there for a reason. Breeding dogs purposely that cannot be shown just puts more faults in the gene pool and all the hard work that Linda Spurlin and other ethical breeders are putting in shouldn't be taken lightly. Do the right thing UKC and reinstate the DQ's!
