As parents and community members of Lake Bluff District 65, we are requesting that the District administration reinstate a traditional grading system at Lake Bluff Middle School. Traditional grading system is defined as using letter grades and number percentages. We would like the grading system to be aligned with Lake Forest High School, to better prepare our middle school students for the high school transition.

The growth of this petition has reached a level that the district office can no longer ignore. I am currently finalizing a formal letter to the Board of Education to request a meeting regarding our alignment proposal.

I understand the concept of sbr and if the school had the resources to be able to work to the concept ot mastery with each student t would be fabulous, However this is the real world and the class has to move through the curriculum needless of mastery. I agree why have a different system to the high school?

As an older sibling and a graduate from LBMS, the grading system is necessary to prepare kids for high school or else they’ll be completely blindsided!

The current system is too confusing for parents and students! I feel like we will be sending them to high school unprepared for letter grades and the stress that will in turn come with it!

Standards based grading was confusing for my son and for me. It gave no indication of his progress and was counter productive for his motivation to work hard. The numbers On his report card seemed very subjective based on each teachers level of competency with the standards grading and very opinion based for some teachers.

I believe traditional grading provides a more literal understanding for both parent and student as to where they stand. My experience with this newer format of grading makes it seem as if it's designed more so to show teacher's growth then the students.

My oldest just started LF High and has more stress about grades. I do not believe this is the best preparation for our kids. It is my understanding that Deerpath uses grades. If that is the case, why are we placing our kids at a disadvantage.

They can use both systems if they like but the preference would be traditional if they need to choose one.
