ASA. I will not sign a petition demanding reversal of recent EC/BOT decision on Imam Daoudi’s contract, because I do not know enough to reach a conclusion on the subject.
This does not mean that I am pleased with the apparent departure of Imam Daoudi who has done so much for our community. Rather, I would petition the EC and BOT to do what they should have done before taking such a decision: document a thorough analysis of the impact of their decision on our community; share the document with all members of ISA; and hold a special meeting to which all members are invited to share their comments and recommendations for improving the analysis. Then, and only then, should there be reconsideration of their decision.
This is not a requirement of federal, state or local government; nor do I believe that it is a requirement of the ISA bylaws. This is not a challenge to the “power” of the EC or BOT. However, it is clearly a common courtesy that should have been extended to the members of our community, all of whom will be impacted by the decision. Being done in way that has the appearance of a sneaky, back-room deal will serve neither the governing bodies (EC and BOT), nor the community-at-large in the longer term. I would have expected better of our community leaders.
A thorough analysis of the impact of either extending or terminating Imam Daoudi’s contract would consist of two parts: the first part would consider the positive and negative impacts on our community of extending (with or without modification) the contract; the second part would consider the positive and negative impacts on our community of terminating the contract (or allowing it to expire). The documented analysis would be submitted to all members of ISA (and, possibly, others in our community); written comments solicited; and a meeting held with all interested ISA members to discuss the analysis. After modifying the analysis to reflect any new information arising from the Members’ revi

There will be rulers from whom you will see both goodness and corruption. One who recognizes their evil and hates it will maintain his innocence, but one who is pleased with it and follows them will be sinful.

I hope the BOT and EC aren't pleased with their actions, smh.

This is a travesty. I come back from my travels to see this happen to Sidi Imam Jamal Daoudi. I don't understand the problem. Are tracking something we are not? And why not get the pulse of the ummah before making such a foolish decision? This is an embarrassment and mismanagement. I am tired of seeing Imam across the country being released, fired or however they want to make it sound, just because of personal issues. The BOT and EC are going to mess around and find themselves with an empty masjid if they keep this disgusting practice up. The BOT and EC need be brave enough to address the entire jama'at tomorrow with answers. I don't want to see a memo, I don't want to hear the Imam, I don't want to see a memo, I want to hear them tell ALL of us directly why my brother, Imam, and friend has to step down. Anything else is unacceptable. If they don't have a reason then effective immediately, his contract must be renewed. I will have to consult my own shayukh and make istikharah on my next move if this beloved Imam's contract is not renewed. We should not let this happen. This will make one too many times and I'm sick of it.
