Request to remove obstructions and restore safe access to Gurudwara sahib
Request to Remove Obstructions and Restore Safe Access to Gurdwara Sahib (Penticton Sikh Temple)
We, the undersigned, are members and supporters of the Gurdwara Sahib, also known as the Penticton Sikh Temple, located on 3290 South Main Street, Penticton V2A 5J6.
We are deeply concerned about the recent installation of dug-in trench planter boxes and extensive cement work that now Stretches from the main gate to a secondary gate. These changes have blocked vehicle access to one of the temple's gates and removed space that was previously used by vehicles and early-morning visitors. A newly placed bus stop directly across from the secondary gate has further added to the congestion and inaccessibility.
This area is essential for vehicles to enter and exit the Gurdwara Sahib safely, especially in the early morning when visitors arrive for daily prayers before the temple gates are opened. The removal of waiting areas and vehicle access has created significant safety issues and inconvenienced worshippers.
We also note that no other place of worship or nearby business has been affected in this way, and we feel this treatment is unfair and marginalizing to our community. The changes were made without proper consultation, and the impact has been disruptive and deeply concerning.
We respectfully request the City to:
1. Remove the trench planter boxes and cement structures that are blocking and restricting access to the Gurdwara Sahib.
2. Restore the area in front of the temple to its previous, open and accessible condition.
3. Relocate the bus stop away from the temple gates to improve safety and reduce congestion.
4. Provide designated parking or waiting spaces directly across from the temple to allow congregants to safely wait during early morning hours before the gates are opened.
We urge the City to take immediate action to restore safe, fair, and respectful access to this important place of worship.
