Request to DPD for Public Meeting on Talaris Site

I am totally opposed to Project No. 3015404. The Battelle/Talaris site is an historical jewel in NE Seattle and represents the work and design of some of Seattle's leading architects and landscape planners. At a minimum, a public meeting should be held so that DPD can incorporate the strong feelings of the neighborhood into its decision-making process.

The development plan as posted would be a horrible mistake and major degradation of the property and the neighbor. Please do not allow such a plan to go forward.

Please preserve this historic pastoral site, both for the sake of its wildlife occupants and its human neighbors. This neighborhood already has begun to feel the effects of the massive construction planned for Children's Hospital, including increased traffic. To lose the Talaris site to a similar expansion would be doubly painful.

This definitely needs to be heard.

Save this site! It is a vital habitat'

A meeting is critical to allow for those impacted by this site to be heard. These are wetlands, eagle habitat and never before been used in this capacity.

There must be a public meeting prior to any approval actions for the Talaris Center. Both the City Counsil and the Mayors Office MUST conform to this. I am from the Hawthorne HiIls adjacent neighborhood that has concurrent interest in this issue.

Please schedule a hearing where the timing allows for all sides to be heard. Talaris is located in an environmentally sensitive area, within the city, where wildlife habitat is critical and shrinking. This factor together with the issues of increased and burdensome density on the neighborhood warrant a full discussion and airing of the issues.

Besides being a wetland, the fact that Bald Eagles have been nesting in the adjacent cottonwoods for over 20 years needs close consideration.

We demand a public meeting.

This site should retain as much of its openess and park like setting as possible. The site might also be considered a wetlands as it is part of the natural drainage system from the springs along the Burk Gilman Trail that drain south through the the housing area and old Coast Guard broadcast station siteast west of Sand Point Way NE, under NE 55th and then under NE 45th down into a natural pond that was formed when NE 41st was filled in at the head of the little bay in the old town of Yesler. This pond was then reenginered when the site was developed by Batelle with a drain system controlling the pond water level. It is simple to follow the natural drainage system even though it has ben transected by streets and placed in pipes.

Please make sure a meeting is held. Comments from all sides must be heard.

This site is a beautiful sanctuary for N.E. Seattle. It would create more density in an area where homes are already in close proximity to each other.

Wetlands, bald eagle nesting site, greenspace, tranquil grounds. Unique in city space. Please do not sacrifice to urban sprawl.

I believe this project should be duely provided adequate time for proper discussion, input and review by all interested parties. Our City is losing much of its character for the sake of a "quick buck", which is shameful. What legacy are we leaving for those who follow us?

I hope that the overcrowding implicit in the development plans for the Talaris site will be rejected. Such overcrowding is inconsistent with the housing in the area and will despoil a beautiful natural sight.

Very disturbed if the wonderful Talaris site will be changed. The buildings are interesting and the landscape architecture should be preserved as a monoment and not replaced by ugly, people-crowded buildings.
