We, the undersigned students of the Software Engineering Hybrid program, are writing to express our deep concern about the the lack of in-person support provided. Unfortunately, a significant number of our fellow students have dropped out and/or deferred due to the challenging nature of the material and the limited opportunities for interactive learning.

Current Challenges:

The current curriculum is very heavy which is okay for the betterment of our careers. Many students find it difficult to grasp complex concepts without hands-on experience and real-time guidance.

The reliance on self-study and online resources is overwhelming and ineffective. While online resources can be valuable, they cannot replace the personalized support and immediate feedback available in live sessions.

The limited number of tutorials and live coding sessions hinders student engagement and understanding. The current format often leaves students feeling confused and discouraged, impacting their motivation and overall learning experience.

Proposed Solution:

We believe that significantly increasing the availability of in-person support would significantly improve student learning and retention. We propose the following:

Increase the frequency of live coding sessions and tutorials: We request at least two sessions per week, focusing on key challenging topics and practical application.

Regularly schedule live coding sessions: These sessions would provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting, receive immediate feedback from instructors and peers, and build their confidence.

Explore alternative learning formats: Consider incorporating interactive workshops, guest lectures from industry professionals, and project-based learning opportunities to further enhance student engagement.

Benefits:

Implementing these changes would offer numerous benefits, including:

Improved student understanding and retention: Interactive learning and personalized support will lead to better comprehension of complex concepts and a deeper understanding of the material.

Reduced dropout rate: By providing students with the necessary support, we can prevent future dropouts and ensure that more students graduate successfully.

Enhanced student engagement and motivation: Live sessions and hands-on activities will make learning more enjoyable and meaningful for students, fostering a more positive learning environment.

Better preparation for the workforce: Increased practical experience and real-world application of skills will better prepare students for careers in the software engineering field.

Call to Action:

We urge you to seriously consider our request and take immediate action to implement the proposed changes. We are confident that increasing the availability of in-person support will greatly benefit the entire Software Engineering program and its students. We are open to discussing these suggestions further and working collaboratively to find solutions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
