Request for Open Dialogue at TAS

Whether one has seen the actual videos, I think most of the TAS community already have a general understanding of what’s on it and what the context of the videos were. I believe the reason this Petition have gotten so many response so quickly is because many of us parents don’t understand the rationale behind such a decision, and the harsh nature of punishment have created fear that our own children may also be expelled, for other behaviors that most people would also think it should not result in expulsion. I accept that the school may have more facts, and have rationales that would alleviate these fears and concerns the parents have. That’s exactly why a transparent accounting of the facts, the disciplinary process, and the rationale for these decision by the school administration is necessary. We may not need ALL of the questions answered, but a detailed accounting and explanation will go a long way for better alignment between the school administration and the parents, and bringing the TAS community closer.

Internet bully also needs to be address in this case, there are some cases that kids under pressure from internet bully whom committed suicide. Our kids need to be edicated on this issue which is against TAS value.

We need transparency

As a school, we pride ourselves on TAS Values, some of which include honesty and responsibility. There has been a lack of honest dialogue and communication regarding what has happened to the students, and as head of school, there is a responsibility to elucidate what has happened.

Totally agree with this agenda! We have being TAS 11 years. For our family we really couldn’t believe that our school didn’t do a well explanation and just let these students be suspended from school! Please that the school could do more in educating children and let them learning instead of suspending the students. We are quite disappointed with school decisions! Please be more kindness and give our children more right and character values!!

Transparency is very important so that students/parents of other schools don’t get wrong ideas through the misleading direction of media. And schools is the place to learn things, kids should get second chances when they make mistakes because they are learning institutions for under ages. They are not weeds and they are young trees that can be trimmed to be thrive.

An open dialogue is necessary for better of the community.

TAS should give kids a second chance

To become a top notch international school is TAS’s key aspiration and the hard work by all TAS members moves the school towards that goal together. However, disappointingly the recent school disciplinary actions exhibits lack of transparency and highly subjective decision-making. These students are all early teeners (13-14 yrs) hardly big enough to recognize the traps of the digital age and dangers in our uncertain era. TAS teachers and parents who have prior personal interactions with these kids will definitely agree that they don’t have any racial hatred problems. They have been taught in TAS system since lower school and the mistakes made may be repeated by others subsequently. Thus, an open and fair process to disciplining and educating our children must be fully ensured. All members of the TAS community should know what the school is doing to prepare our students for the future!

As a victim of multiple counts of discrimination growing up in the States (as I'm sure many of us were) we were taught to forgive and show kindness. Why were these boys treated so harshly? Where is the same compassion and leniency we were asked to provide?

The 12th grade expulsions (or forced withdrawals) which happened in 2019/2020 school year are yet additional examples of lack of transparency and poor communication with the TAS community. This is an issue that pervades the entire school.

I thought the school wants the kids to be responsible and face their mistakes and now the school is punishing them for doing exactly that? What's the standard? Where's the standard?

We should re open the gym as long as none of us have traveled abroad for the past six months. Its a healthy practice

I hope our school can use this opportunity to teach about diversity and inclusion as well as proper code of conduct. Transparency can help our community learn together.

Would really like to know and have our kids grow and prosper in an environment that advocates love, forgiveness and encourages students to learn from their mistakes and be a better human being in future.

I hope TAS can be a kinder education institute to our children. We want kids with good values rather than going to good colleges.

I fully agree that the school has a responsibility to the parent and alumni community to share the process, rationale and disciplinary actions that the students have to face. This can be done in a public forum without violating individual student privacy and confidentiality while addressing the concerns of the larger community.
