Even though this area of concern focuses on the Sardinia Bay Marine Protected Area, this kind of illegal activity is not confined in this particular spot, but is increasing spreading to other areas. The term "fix broken windows" comes to mind. In New York City the "Broken Windows Theory," a policing strategy popularized by Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Police Commissioner William Bratton in the 1990s suggests that cracking down on minor offenses like vandalism, loitering, and public urination can prevent more serious crime.

Stop the poaching!

I see perlemoen poachers regularly at Sardinia Bay and Schoenmakerskop, and it is clear that private security are not able/willing to handle the task themselves.

As a resident living in Sardinia Bay for over twenty years it is essential that this conservancy area is protected to preserve the wonderful marine life found in this area. The current situation with abalone poachers in the area will endanger the marine life

I do believe that the SAPS horse unit could make a huge difference in this fight against these criminals. By using these resources this type of patrol would actually give them a proper job to accomplish. I am very well aware of their daily tasks which can be absolutely nothing on certain days. It will be greatly appreciated if we can visit Sardinia Bay without worrying about our car and our safety.

We have increasingly seen poachers at Sardinia bay coming out of the water in scuba gear with net bags full of stuff. We feel unsafe during weekdays. Tourists are shocked by our authorities complete disinterest in protecting such a beautiful nature reserve. These criminals operrate in full daylight with impunity, with no fear of any consequence. The same degradation is seen at cape receif. I believe that there should be security permanently stationed at the parking's of both reserves.
