Request for Course Addition to Summer Semester

Undergraduate - Specialization in TESL
Because of the strict nature of the program breakdown and the limited schedule of when the mandatory courses are offered, the four year Bachelor of Education with Specialization often takes students five years or more to complete. The flexibility of the schedule, allowing students to take as much time as they need to complete the courses to finish the program is an asset to students, who may not be able to devote themselves full time to their studies because of work, families or other obligations. But there are many students who want to commit themselves to the completion of the program in a realistic time frame that works for them.
No TESL courses, as far as we know, have ever been offered in the summer semester. If they were, students would be able to complete their studies within the four-year time frame realistically. Students are highly advised to only take 12 credits during semesters when they are doing internships. This forces students to take courses during the summer. But the most important courses needed to graduate are not even offered during the summer. TESL courses should be offered in the summer semester.
If you are a TESL student and think that TESL courses should be available to take in the summer semester, please sign this petition with your full name and student ID.
We, the undergraduate students in the program of Teaching English as a Second Language, would like to urge the Department of Education and its Chair to offer TESL
courses during the summer terms which are critical for the timely completion of our degree.
