Request for Cancellation or Alternative Assessment for A Level May/June 2026 Exams in the Middle East

I live in the UAE, going through this turmoil time has been a very difficult time for me. It’s bringing up alot of anxiety and fear of uncertainty. I’m unable to focus. School has been online for 3 weeks . Though the teachers are trying their best, it is still not the same as face to face learning.

I respectfully urge the authorities to reconsider the current examination format in light of the significant academic disruption students have faced. Many candidates have experienced inconsistent teaching, reduced access to resources, and ongoing mental and academic pressure, which directly impacts performance under standard exam conditions. A single high-stakes examination cannot accurately reflect a student’s true ability under these circumstances. Implementing an alternative or hybrid assessment approach would ensure a more fair, reliable, and valid evaluation of student performance. We are not asking for reduced standards, but for a system that measures achievement in a way that accounts for the realities students have faced.

A-level exams are designed for our well-being,integrity and an upholstery for our academic journey. We ask the exam board to support us in such difficult times.

Dear Pearson, I am an Edexcel IAL candidate based in the UAE sitting the June 2026 exam series. I am writing to request a clear contingency plan for students in the Middle East. Other boards such as CBSE have already cancelled exams for UAE students, and the IB is offering free deferrals. Pearson has made no such commitment despite the same conflict affecting all of us equally. I also want to highlight the significant academic disadvantage we are facing. Due to the conflict, schools in the UAE have been operating remotely for an extended period. This means we have been deprived of in-person teaching, face-to-face support from teachers, proper exam conditions to practise under, and access to laboratory facilities for practical subjects. Students in the UK and other unaffected regions have had none of these disruptions. We are expected to sit the same exams under the same marking schemes despite preparing under completely different and far more difficult circumstances. That is not a fair or equal playing field. For students sitting Biology 3 and Chemistry 3 specifically, this is even more critical — these papers directly assess practical lab skills that we have had no opportunity to develop this year. This is not without precedent. In 2021, Pearson itself awarded grades based on teacher assessments and predicted scores when students could not sit exams due to COVID-19. The disruption we are facing in the UAE right now is directly comparable. If Pearson could implement that system globally in 2021, there is no reason it cannot be applied to affected regions today.
