Just to be clear, this petition is not specifically about tax paying or non tax paying entities. It's about taking a look at the zoning for all summer camps.

Dear Town of Liberty Board Members;
As a 3rd generation resident/land owner of Liberty, I am respectfully requesting that you further consider a moratorium in the Town of Liberty on non-tax paying entities.
Liberty is in dire need of the type of growth that contributes to a stronger tax base and a healthier community. Continuing to allow non-profits to take root in Liberty whether seasonal summer camps, drug rehabilitation facilities, retreats, etc. although very nice in theory, is not beneficial to the way of life expected by the residents of a small rural town. As we all know, we require the type of growth that brings jobs, homebuyers, local spending, etc. with low impact to our residents and to our infrastructure. Right now, all we attract is quite to the contrary.
Although not a permanent solution, a moratorium would afford time to thoughtfully come up with a plan that would help provide the Town of Liberty and its full-time residents an opportunity to prosper. It is not fair or ethical for them to carry this burden on their backs any longer.
It is heart-breaking that instead of watching young generations realize their dreams of homeownership, we have watched our friends, colleagues, family members and fellow residents lose their homes in one of the heaviest tax-burdened towns in the county. When does this burden end for them and when will they enjoy the fruits of their hard labor?

Someone said saturation point, true. But there is also all the failed and abandoned camps that litter the area, all year.

There has clearly been a saturation point reached. One only need live with the challenges of the influx of summer folk and the high taxes compounded by properties off of the tax roll to realize that an increase in summer camps is not the way to create a liveable and sustainable environment in our area.

It is essential to the future of Liberty that this moratorium is passed. If we don't keep the ratables we have and if we don't attract ratables Liberty will die...

It is time that the Town review and update its zoning with regard to summer camps. The existing regulations are out of date.

We need sustainable growth. We do not need more summer residents who pay no taxes but use the communal resources and services that the rest of us pay for.

A moratorium on tax-exempt properties until a comprehensive plan that is sustainable for all of us is developed. . . .

Every tax payer in the Town of Liberty feels the tremendous burden of properties not up to full taxation. Having a personal interest in my hometown, I feel the board needs to examine this issue fully and vote to support the moratorium.

I am in favor of this moratorium on tax-exempt properties in Liberty for the good of the local taxpaying resident.

A moratorium will give time to consider the impact of summer camps on the overall development of the town.
