The Board of Education just voted to allow Julia to stay in the district tuition free until she graduates. I am overwhelmed with relief knowing my niece can remain with her friends and teachers during such a difficult time. Thank you for showing this community really is a family.

This petition is an attempt to modify an existing school policy, which would allow a current student to continue their education at the Tuckahoe Schools through 12th grade in the event of the death of their parent, a current teacher/employee.
Lucille Anzalone grew up in the Village of Tuckahoe, attended the Tuckahoe Schools K-12, graduating in 1987. She had been employed by the district as a Speech and Language teacher from 2006 until her death in October of 2016. Her daughter is a current student, and this petition will aid in the modification of an existing policy, in order to allow her to continue 9th-12th grade tuition free. This is at no additional cost to the taxpayers, however, in order for the child to remain in district a formal vote, open public discussion and amendment must be in place.
Your signature will assist in communicating to the Board of Education and Administration the spirit of what this community represents.

Seeing 500 names on this list proves how much this community cares about looking after our own. Thinking of Lucille and knowing there are so many people backing her daughter brings me a lot of comfort.

This is clearly the right thing to do -- especially considering the additional stress involved in a move to another school shortly after the death of a parent, and the benefit of being with those that you know when looking for support.
As a former teaching staff member of Tuckahoe and former colleague of Lucille Anzalone, I suggest that allowing Lucille's daughter to continue Tuition free attendance in Tuckahoe makes Tuckahoe bigger and better and more human.
Adding one more student to a class has zero cost to the district. We expect our teachers to treat our children like family and in return we should treat our teachers and their children as part of our Tuckahoe family.
I am truly hoping that this board does the right thing here. Julia has been friends with my daughter since kindergarten and a part of the "Tuckahoe Family" for 9 years. Lucille was a wonderful person and dedicated teacher who helped so many at the Tuckahoe schools. Julia should be treated like "family".

This child has been through enough and should not be forced to leave the school. Lucille was a fixture here at Cottle and was dedicated to all our kids. Her daughter must remain in Cottle as it was one of her last wishes. We as a town need to think "what if this was my child"?
