Calling on President Obama and Congress to replace Michele Leonhart, DEA Director with someone who will support scientific research and laboratory testing of marijuana as a possible treatment in cancer, epilepsy, treating chronic pain and other possible medical uses. Rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III, and allowing investigation into marijuana's medical properties would not make marijuana any more available to the public than it is now. Cannabis has been used for more than 7,000 years with no recorded evidence of a single overdose. This cannot be said of many prescription drugs currently used to treat these conditions. Ms. Leonhart has demonstrated prejudice against all studies that have found cannabis and/or marijuana to be non-addictive and possibly effective in treating many medical conditions. The human body has cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body, and our bodies actually produce low levels of cannabinoids naturally.
