SIGNIFICANT DISSATISFACTION @ the VRC

The VRC is one of my favourite clubs across the country and I have sadly had no desire to be there due to the ED. She is disrespectful and doesn’t have the clubs best interests in mind. The sooner she is out of the club the better. She is a bully and has shown her true colours.

My reason for agreeing to have chantell replaced is I have gone to the office 3 times to see her and each time I was told she was at home. I believe she should be here in the office each and every day. I have not seen her at anytime in the building.

I am a new member to VRC and I haven't had a direct conversation with the ED. However the energy and attitude she brought forward at the AGM held in Nov 2023, did not convince me of a thoughtful leadership from the ED. Still wrapping my head as to why VRC needs an ED when the club is member operated and board is chosen by members? Worthwhile to rethink and refocus the position mandate & Democratically fill this position as required. I'd like to see a united VRC and everyone brings in a positive culture to the club and make it enjoyable and welcoming for everyone!

All Mondays and Tuesdays all the squash courts are booked for the club from 6pm to 10pm, plus Fridays drop offs also from 6pm to 9pm. This does not leave much room for members with working schedules that just have those time slots to book games. The new restaurant menu and working hours does not seem inclusive enough to all the members and catered to just part of them.

The menu and the working hours of the restaurant business is unexeptable. Also the Monday and Tuesday afternoon is never available!

First impression of the ED was short weeks after she was hired (without proper process) she was scolding an auditorium full of VRC members at the 2022 AGM because we dared to criticize some on the board for their generally terrible and often unethical performance. Totally inappropriate. 2nd impression was being denied a refund on a fob deposit due to "an administrative fee" and being quite disrespectful in her communication. She signs her letters "VRC Management" instead of her name and title, which seems to indicate she doesn't know that the Board is ultimately the Management, not her. Positive impressions? None. The fact that there is an ED who is continuing a manner that is divisive, adversarial and short on due process is the last thing VRC needs after 2021-22. I agree with all the points in this petition.

Every interaction I’ve had with her has been negative. Unpleasant woman

If all is well at the VRC, there are no petitions, no letters going enmasse to the Board, no ongoing complaints that are unanswered, no Board Directors resigning in record numbers, no huge litigation pending against the VRC. There is only this type of "noise" when leadership is failing at the highest levels. Leadership had one full year to rectify to wrongs of 2022...and did and are intending to do....nothing. Change will come as it always does when wrongs have to be put right.

The Board needs to take action now and end the turmoil from the last two years.

As an Honorary Life member, past Club President and past President of Badminton Canada, I find it shocking with the club's current state of affairs. This is a club that has likely produced more Canadian Champions than any club in the country and it did with well functioning Presidents and Board of Directors. Plus a well respected Head coach of over 40 years in Calvin Holoboff. I am further agree and respect the comments of Raymond Wong who has provided sensible leadership for more years than I remember. Hopefully, a successful petition will be a major step in giving the membership the leadership in deserves going forward.

Also was denied my fob deposit due to 'change in policy', which left a sour taste in my mouth.

I left the club in 2023 due to dissatisfaction.

I have never met the ED or had any interactions. I honestly have no issues with the club and find that almost nothing has changed except one importantly component, the continued focus on this conversation. It is painfully clear that the individual in question is a catalyst and polarizing in her capacity. In any other organization, right or wrong, the focus should not be on the individual, but on the success of the organization. For that reason alone, I agree that change is needed. The focus here is negative and brings the organization down each time these emails or petitions are circulated. If the "leader" can't recognize this, others need to act to allow the club to move on in a more positive and constructive fashion. Ironically the ED has galvanized people to take act. I'll be interested to see if continued action is taken once she is replaced to make the place better.

If the Board of Directors feel that everything is operating normally, they are wrong. As, a long-time member of the club, I have not witness this kind directive of not serving its members, special agenda by some, not behaving like a not-for-profit organization - this puzzled me. If the structure was implemented (was told lack off), why there are so many dissatisfied members signing the petition, there should be more complimentary. I am one of the many members correspondence was not acknowledge. I am a passionate member who loves VRC for it’s culture and history, furthermore as a members club. Volunteers is what VRC is also known for - having two VRC members being President of BBC and BCan - no other clubs in Canada except VRC has the distinction of having two (2) Badminton Presidents. I understand the directive to ignore past history - this is disappointed. This is my morning rant!

VRC is unique - the club is not a country club nor it is pay as you play. The club has the best wooden sprung floor in Canada, compared to other facilities - concrete floor and carpet courts. If, you are playing sparingly, you have other options. Cheers

No reduced fee membership option for those who only play once a week is really bad & makes VRC incredibly expensive for casual members. Unlikely to renew unless big changes are made. Court / playing times for Monday ladder / Wednesday social are also too late.
