My granddaughter was born with Down syndrome and to refer her to a lunatic is the greatest insult to her and her entire famely, she is clever , funny and bright as a button

We no longer live in Victorian times but need to treat all our citzens with respect and dignity and therefore this Act needs to be replaced quickly.

This ratification of the UN Convention is long overdue, not just 8 years. It may have been brought in to limit the property rights of women that had been given a boost in 1870 UK law,- the Married Womens' Property Act, to protect women from fortune hunters getting their assets on marriage, but since then this 1871 has indeed facilitated professional executors acquiring assets intended for heirs 'of so-called unsound mind' allegedly, to administer 'in trust' be executors who benefit unscrupulously from such transactions, to the cost of the true heirs. Given the date, March 30th 2007, just before 'the Crash' came, would the delay in ratifying the CPRD have thrown a new and unfavourable light on the acquisition of the property rights of heirs under trusts and wills made while benefactor was of 'unsound mind' e.g. with Alzheimers, and is this still part of the reason for continuing delay in Irish Governnment signing up the COnvention into Irish Law, would this necessitate modification of the 1964 Succession Act?

Long overdue, in Minister for Justice's in-tray since December 2013! Gap in law between this 1871 outdated Lunacy Act (brought in year after Married Womens Property Actr, to curb it, and Irfeland's Succession 1964 Act, so people can be stripped ofd their rights to inherit using this hidden gap in Irish law.

My grandson is not an "idiot", he is very clever. He is not a "Lunatic", he is probably saner than I am. And he has a very sound mind. So why should he be treated differently than me. Why should he be denied his rights?
