It is time for those with disabilities to be treated well, supported for the things they can do! Old attitudes must go!

My son is neither an idiot nor a lunatic. He was diagnosed with ASD. He sees, hears, smells, tastes and feels the world differently to the rest of us. Being 'different' does not make him a 'lunatic', it makes him unique in a closed minded world. As a family, we celebrate his uniqueness and want the government to do the same.

would you be happy if you child was being referred to under an act dating back to 1871? As the mother of a child with Autism and an intellectually disability we have seen the failure of previous government to pass Mental Capacity Legislation - and NOW we are faced with the same issue where you as the current government may not pass the proposed Assisted Decision making Legislation - YOU are failing thousand of familiues like mine - so I am calling you to make a stand for the most vulnerable in our society - stop calling them LUNATICS and REPLACE THIS LEGISLATION NOW!

Shame on all politicians from FG, FF and Labour for the unforgivable delay in passing the Assisted DEcision Making Bill. Shows where their priorities lie ...

In an era when we emphasise respect for the individual and supported independent living, it is a complete anachronism to retain the Lunacy Act on our statute books. Repeal it NOW!
