200/300 McGill Park Crape Myrtle Tree Problem
The Crape Myrtle trees lining the 200/300 parking area constantly shed
copious amount of sap, tree debris and waste on our cars nine months out of the
year. It starts around April with tree sap, followed by snow like flower
peddles coating our cars all through summer. Rain makes it worse causing them to stick and must manually whipped off. The sun then bakes them so they stick to the paint. They get into every crack and crevice making it difficult to remove and clog our vehicle ventilation system.
Near end of summer, black/purple staining seed pods start dropping to the ground. This is followed by the Autumn leaves shedding away for winter around December into
January. We get a reprieve for 2-3 months then the cycle starts all over again. The trees are pretty until you have to park under them all year long.
We have 28 parking spaces in our circle, of those, a dozen are lined with nine Crape
Myrtle trees. Many in our community avoid parking under the Crape Myrtles trees
due to the constant mess they make. We invest a lot of money to maintain our cars;
there is a simple solution to this annual problem.
The signatures in this petition would like to reclaim our parking spaces by exchanging the Crape Myrtle trees for new low maintenance, car friendly, evergreen trees such as Emerald Green Arborvitae trees.
