There are many frustrated students and parents within the Fort Dodge Community School District, due to the grading policies and procedures of American Studies. American Studies does not have a typical grading scale (A, B, C..) instead American Studies has a grading procedure that is based on "the success and ideas learned by students." This grading scale is a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, with each number meaning a different level of understanding. In order to learn as a student, we must have teachers that are willing to help students out and a grading procedure that isn't a "trial." Many of the teachers within this area of the class simply say, "Ask your table partner." This class was designed with the sole purpose of individual learning, however many of the sophomore students within Fort Dodge Senior High are unable to understand this way of learning. Because of this misunderstanding, students are punished by receiving low grades and teachers that are not willing to work with us. Please sign this petition to save a student, teacher, and parent from the struggle that is inattentive learning and lousy education. Hopefully we may take this idea to our school board and go back to the previous grading procedure. Thank you once again.
