The passing of California's Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage, effectively creates a second class of citizens in California. Proposition 8 targets a specific subset of the state's population and explicitly denies them a universal right, leaves those couples that have already married in a state of confusion, and forces the beliefs of a subset of the population onto the whole. By repealing Proposition 8 and thereby removing the constitutional amendment, gay marriage will no longer be illegal.
