To the United States of America Legislative Assembly:

Whereas in the 1824, 1876, 1888, and 2000 presidential elections that produced a winner who attained the most popular votes, but did not amass the required number of Electoral College votes to become president.

And, whereas the distribution system of Electoral College votes causes candidates to solely focus on battleground states such as Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida in the 2012 election, and disregard states that candidates do not have the capacity to win, like Alabama, Texas, California and New York.

And, whereas a recent Gallup poll taken in 2011 revealed that 62 percent of Americans were dissatisfied with the Electoral College method of selecting a president compared to the 35 percent who favored it.

We the undersigned petition the United States of America Legislative Assembly to repeal the Twelfth Amendment.
