On September 28,2011 the Consistory committee of Trinity United Church of Christ in Reading, PA voted to end my employment at the church after only 6 months. Their claim is that I was not a "good fit" for the church. This was after being told that things were turning around and I had done a good job. Their issue? The four days a week that I was in the church office was not enough for them even though my family was less than two months away from relocating only 3 minutes from the church. On two of the four days I was on site I was in the office for 9-12 hours staying overnight instead of driving the 1.5 hours there and back.

Their claim was that people were not able to get in touch with me even though I have a cell phone which not only receives calls and texts, but emails and Facebook messages as well. This is also in spite of the fact that on the days I was in the office no one rarely sought to speak to me.

There was also a claim that I wasn't getting to know staff, however there were only three other people on staff. I spent a lot of time talking to the secretary, however the music director was the wife of the former senior pastor and best friend of the current senior pastor (my boss) who had formerly served as assistant pastor. She was also the grandmother of the volunteer youth director who had applied for my job and was denied (the senior pastor was his godmother). Before finally resigning he was constantly undermining me and it is suspected that he left in the narthex a picture from my Facebook profile of my wife and I sticking our tongues (which are pierced) out.

Since we were in the process of buying a house, we have spent a total of $1850 in deposits and inspections which we believe the church should reimburse us for since my dismissal came without notice. Only one week ago I received a six-month review which mentioned that the "next few months" would be important to determine my fit for ministry at Trinity but claimed it understood the distance was an issue. The next week I found myself being dismissed without a chance to improve on the issues in my review and neither the senior pastor nor Consistory president responded to my request for a meeting to discuss the changes I was planning to make.

Please sign my petition and tell Trinity that what they did is unfair and immoral, especially for a religious organization, and that they should repay us the amount of $1850 in full.
