Hello,
I'm from Denmark and I'm here to do a 'Study Semester Abroad' at UCT! I cannot finish my last master's semester and get my credits transferred to my home university, if we don't resume classes. I have paid a lot of money to come and study here but now I cannot graduate and I have to go home if the demonstrations continue! :(

Definitely agree. It is unfair on others and the consequences for everyone due to a shutdown as it can be severe. However I agree to protesting but not a shutdown.

There are some real problems here that have legitimate cause for protest, however the general desire for better South African education cannot be realised by crippling the education system further. Let education resume, for the sake of future generations of young South Africans.

The dire consequences that will come to be should the academic year not be completed in 2016 are extreme and highly disruptive - on a national level and bigger than tertiary education. For a description of such a scenario look for the press conference by Max Price (UCT) on September 28, 2016. (UCT Youtube page). Let this gather the momentum that non-protesting students need to see to stand up and challenge the direction the protesters are taking. We merely need to redirect them to government - not silence them completely. Currently, they're addressing the wrong group.
Open UCT campus.
