Greetings,
Please consider signing this petition to encourage the Governor to
allow us to reopen Cocoa Beach Health and Fitness. I feel like we are
being unfairly grouped together with other big cities.
In general, Brevard County has luckily had a low percentage of
COVID-19 cases and specifically, Cape Canaveral has had 2 and Cocoa
Beach has had 7. That is under 10 cases in our population of roughly
22,000 people in the combined cities. I am told that all have recovered
and currently there are 0 positive cases in our two cities.
The Florida Task Force had recommended that fitness centers reopen in
Phase 1 with a limit of 50% of building capacity. Phase 2 has us
opening at 75% of capacity. I actually think those are both too high
and I'm looking at keeping us around 30%. Plus it is our off season,
and we would never be able to reach 75% capacity until next January or
February.
Our precautions will also be above and beyond what is suggested.
Members will be required to clean their hands and checked for a fever
before they are allowed to work out. Upon opening, staff will be
required to wear a mask and gloves. Common sense social distancing
protocols will also be implemented including limiting class attendance
and disallowing the use of every other piece of cardio.
Of course, we do not want one person to get sick but at this point in
our local recovery timeline, our area appears to qualify for Phase 3
within the State's plan. It is time for every business in our area to
be able to reopen in some capacity.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jim McCormick
Exercise is an essential factor in promoting good health. With our local extremely low incidence of COVID-19 and the cleanliness and safety measures detailed above, I, at age 69, would feel comfortable working out at Cocoa Beach Health and Fitness.
