Esthetician’s are trained in sanitation techniques and use them very seriously. This is our everyday life. I have been an esthetician for 41 yrs. I practice in Ma. I have been a Director in training and education. I feel more safe in my treatment room than in the grocery store. The only difference with CoVID than my normal. The desk procedures involving temperature and wavers. Otherwise it’s me with a mask and sheild.

Dear Governor Cuomo,
I please ask that you reconsider to allow facial and skin care services to be part of phase 4. As many states have already allowed skincare services to reopen with the proper precautious, social distancing and PPE we are trained licensed medical professionals that have the capability to abide by the regulations set forth and in our practices we already take sanitation of the highest importance. Spas also have the capability to strictly enforce social distancing rules as we are only able to see one client at a time and can limit the number of people coming through our doors since we are private safe havens for people to begin with. As a small business owner that started my new spa right before Covid hit I'm afraid that if we are not able to reopen soon that my doors might never be able to open and I can't handle the financial burden for much longer. Unemployment payments don't cut it and I'm barely able to make ends meet as it is currently so I'm asking to seriously consider letting us reopen while abiding by all the guidelines you have set forth for nail salons, hair salons, etc. that have all been able to reopen their doors. We are far better trained at sanitation and safety precautious in general than most businesses that have been allowed to open. I'm begging you to consider this petition and hope that you can understand where we are coming from as many of us estheticians have felt shafted and put aside during all of this. We all want to help and be a part of solution for rebuilding New York but we can't do that if our doors remain closed.

To Governor Cuomo, We represent the businesses that offer facial and skin care services across New York. We are writing to urgently request that you reconsider the decision to continue to shutter our businesses and our livelihoods during phase 4. We ask that we be allowed to lawfully reopen, as we are uniquely positioned to enact sweeping measures to ensure the safety of both our employees and our clients. Unlike other types of businesses where potentially large amounts of customers may cycle in and out throughout the day or congregate in areas and cause viral spread, our business models allow us to separate individual clients. By enacting the same measures used in other states which have allowed re-opening of facial and skin care services, we have the ability to enact call-ahead check-in so that clients are not waiting for services together in one area, as well as temperature screenings at the door. Additionally, we have invested in protective PPE and facial shields in preparation for opening, to allow us to safely conduct facial and skin care services according to state law. In point of fact, we are far better equipped to open in a safe manner than other businesses who have already been allowed to open their doors, since we will see far fewer customers per day with far higher levels of protection. If our businesses remained shuttered and our livelihoods, and that of our employees, continue to be forced to zero, many of us may never be able to return. The businesses we built with our investment of capital, hard work, long hours and sleepless nights will be gone.
