A massive and unneeded high power transmission line is in the works.

Stop CapX2020 in Wisconsin

CapX2020 hopes to stretch from the Dakotas and cross into Wisconsin at a scenic and environmentally sensitive part of the Mississippi River, destroying Wisconsin’s beauty and negatively impacting property owners and communities. More transmission lines will follow should CapX2020 not be stopped. Wisconsin does not need or want these lines, but will pay hundreds of millions of dollars for them.

Over 100 resolutions have been submitted by municipalities asking for more comprehensive analysis regarding CapX2020 and/or Badger Coulee transmission lines, and over 3,000 individuals have signed petitions expressing their concern.

On January 9, 2014, a Request to Reopen the CapX2020 Hampton-La Crosse transmission line docket was filed with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC).

And we need your help … NOW …

BEFORE irreversible damage is done to natural habitats and the scenic beauty of our region that would occur by crossing the Mississippi River and intruding upon the Van Loon wetlands and Great River Road;

BEFORE property owner rights and values are diminished;

BEFORE Wisconsin ratepayers are forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to build high voltage transmission lines to supply energy markets to states east of Wisconsin.

Ask the Wisconsin Public Service Commission and Governor Scott Walker to Reopen the CapX2020 Docket.

If it must be built, it is obvious that it should be located along a freeway even if it costs more and is less direct, instead of a beautiful river valley that is sensitive to any foreign infrastructure. The "cost" to this river valley must be considered.

We have lived all of our 71 years in this valley now when we retired we have to look at a ugly line. They keep saying we are using less energy so why do we need it. If you have to have it put it down the interstate, where you are suppose to be watching your driving not the scenery. Thanks

Who does this serve? Out of state business interests at the expense of the taxpayers. I think this is a cheap shot at exploiting what belongs to all Wisconsinites. Our natural landscapes will be marred by the presence of this project and the stray voltage will make people and animals sick.

With energy usage actually going DOWN in most cases, where is the need for this high voltage line locally or even regionally? Its just not there. So much so that even XCEL has asked for higher electric rates due to the reduced demand.

In light of dropping demand for electricity and a potential for a continuing drop in demand, I see no need for large transmission lines to serve customers. If this project is for profit and shareholders, then it is inappropriate.

CapX is nothing but an extension cord bringing coal power from No. Dakota across MN & WI on to larger cities to the east where electricity can be sold at higher prices for greater unility profits and we pay for it all.

The Federal Government's agreement that the utilities owning transmission lines have engaged in "excessive profits" requiring them to rebate back to the consumers excess charges should be evidence enough that we need to reopen this case. Remote power plants, of any type and transmission lines to far away loads, are obsolete. Local Solar PV generation is the low cost high performance21st Century solution. Reopen the docket
