Whereas, The citizens of Fayetteville and Cumberland County, purchased and secured the Downtown Fayetteville Property that houses the Airborne and Special Operations Museum(ASOM); And That the people of Fayetteville and Cumberland County have created one of the greatest military communities in the world, showing consistent & solid support for our troops and the nations' veterans; And that our citizens won the right to locate the North Carolina State Veterans' Park on taxpayer-owned land, contiguous to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, and that museum has been designed as an integral part of the newly opened State Park; And that The US Army at Fort Bragg, due to sequestration, has decided to cutback operating hours at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum to less than 20 hours per week (Fri-Sun afternoons only); And that those cutbacks will have a tremendously negative affect on all of the small businesses that rely on the Airborne and Special Operations Museum to generate visitor traffic for our growing Downtown area; And that visiting veterans and their families are being disappointed daily, by finding a closed museum, after they have driven off the interstate highway to pay homage to our military, thus giving a negative impression of the City of Fayetteville and questioning all of the advertising created and paid for - to encourage Veterans and Visitors to come to our city of History, Heroes and a Hometown Feeling; Therefore - We the undersigned urge the US Army and the Commanders at Fort Bragg North Carolina to immediately restore the operating hours of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, and work with members of the community who will dedicate themselves to finding volunteers, funding and new revenue streams to keep this significant American Asset open, until regular funding can be restored.
