Reopen Oslo Fornebu (ENFB) – Let’s Bring the "Kai Tak of the North" to VATSIM!
To the VATSIM Community,
In the real world, the gates at Oslo Fornebu closed for the last time in 1998. But in the world of flight simulation, history doesn't have to end. Following in the footsteps of legendary 'ghost airports' like Kai Tak, I want to bring Fornebu back as a vibrant, active destination for virtual pilots. I’ve completed a detailed recreation of ENFB for MSFS 2020/24; now, I need your support to show VATSIM that the community is ready to staff and fly this Scandinavian classic once again.
Why bring back Fornebu?
- "The Kai Tak of the North": Famous for its stunning yet demanding approaches over the Oslofjord and the city heart, Fornebu is a pilot’s playground. Unlike the predictable, automated arrivals of modern airports, ENFB requires hand-flying precision and sharp situational awareness, offering a raw flying experience that modern hubs simply cannot replicate.
- The Missing Link for Retro Flyers: While modern sims offer incredible vintage aircraft like the B727, F28 and MD-82, they lack the historic hubs to support them. Bringing Fornebu to VATSIM fills a massive gap in Northern Europe, allowing pilots to fly these airframes into the environment they were originally designed for.
- A Catalyst for Events: By bringing Fornebu back, we unlock the potential for "Flashback" fly-ins and historic shuttles. This offers pilots a nostalgic escape from the standard ENGM routes and gives VATSIM Scandinavia a powerful tool to drive network activity and engagement.
Show Your Support! To make this happen, we need to demonstrate a clear demand to VATSIM Scandinavia. We want to show them that if they provide the sectors and the ATC coverage, the pilots will come.
By signing this petition, you are voting for:
- The inclusion of ENFB in sector files and AIRAC updates.
- The opportunity for "Historical ATC" sessions and retro events.
- Preserving one of Europe’s most iconic aviation landmarks in the virtual skies.
Don’t let Fornebu remain just a memory. Join us in bringing the sights and sounds of this legendary airport back to the virtual skies. Sign now and help us reopen ENFB!
