Support for renewable energy at 37a St John Street, Wirksworth

A good thing for the future of the planet.1

This is an important initiative for the future of the town which should be fully supported

Solar panels are the future!

We should all be looking to support the introduction of green energy into all our villages.

Please allow sustainable energy to be utilized.

I think this should be allowed, and it would be excellent to see more houses in Wirksworth investing in renewable energy.

If there is no planet, there will be no listed buildings.

We must as a society move into renewable energy and this project will both help to do that and maintain and further Wirksworth’s recent historical identity as a town that both conserves its heritage and invests in a sustainable future - this is the contemporary equivalent of the kind of architectural work that won Wirksworth the European prize in the 1970s-80s It should go ahead.

I’ve got 42 panels on my 18thC malt house on North End clearly visible from the street. I was told by DDDC Planning Dept this was acceptable so why not on St John St? The DDDC need to rest their thinking - we’re in a climate emergency for heaven’s sake! When people want to do the right thing by the planet and the greater community they should be lauded and applauded.

In May 2019 Derbyshire Dales District Council declared a climate emergency. Residents would like to see action on this by supporting people to make green choices that will improve our town, such as this application.

It is imperative that renewable energy systems are encouraged if we are to tackle climate change. As a transition town, Wirksworth should be leading the way.

As a community we should be embracing renewables throughout our town, including allowing our older buildings to change and adapt to modern living. I do not believe the solar panels will significantly detract from the appearance of the conservation area and I fully support the proposal.

Energy conservation is far too important to be rejected in a conservation area on visual grounds. Get real!

Sustainable energy should be a priority when we are in such a climate crisis. If done sympathetically, solar panels would not have a detrimental impact on the character or historical integrity of the town any more than shop signage or wheelie bins do. You have already approved solar panels in the conservation area (North End) so it feels unfair to challenge this. Please send the right message about the importance of sustainable energy and approve this application

Geiffrey Litherland is my cousin, and they are doing an amazing job at renovating this fantastic listed property, please support there wish to have these sutainable panels installed.

ALL properties, domestic and commercial, need to be moving to sustainable energy sources. Adapting buildings to modern life and future-proofing them is critical. To deny this application would be hugely short-sighted. Wirksworth is often looked to as a good example - let’s continue that and build on that and show how it’s embracing the changes that need to be made for a more sustainable future. The town’s buildings have always adapted - they’ve needed to to continue to exist and have a place in the community. This is just another example of how this needs to happen.

There is already a growing number of solar panels and air source heat pumps being used within a conservation zone. Any application of green technologies should be encouraged, supported and in fact funded by grants within Derbyshire Dales. The property in question is not visible from the Main Street.
