Coach Paul Moniak is synonymous with the UIC Swim & Dive Team. In the fall of 2000, he took the helm of a failing D1 swim program and in less than a few months changed the trajectory to a winning team each an every year with his tireless devotion, dedication to his athletes and steadfast love/passion for swimming. Whether it were accomplishments in the pool, scholastically, or personal life endeavors Paul has always had a vested interest in the growth and development of each an every swimmer to grace the UIC Swim team. A coach is responsible for his team to a certain degree but no coach can be held 100% responsible - especially for the selfish acts by a group of adults done outside of his control. To what degree will society continue to allow young adults to walk around entitled and unaccountable for their own actions. To make such a drastic decision to remove a respected coach and mentor of the swimming community and League is a horrendous blemish on the UIC Athletic Administration. I implore the UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt and fellow leaders to rethink their rash decision and reinstate Coach Paul Moniak to his position as the head coach. Respectfully, Stephanie Murphy Hoskins, former UIC Swimmer & Class of 2005.

To say that Paul was and is a dedicated coach is an extraordinary understatement. He was not only committed to the team, but to each individual athlete on his team. I can't begin to express not only my gratitude to him for the impact he had on my life, but also my disgust in these recent events. Personal testimonies will only go so far; the truth and facts are in the numbers, records and championships that Paul has achieved in his time at UIC. Please take the time to re-evaluate this decision and know that this will be a devastating loss to your athletic program as well as the sport of swimming.

It seems like a grave injustice to punish a mentor and asset to the swimming community for the indiscretions of selfish kids.

Paul is a great coach and mentor. He poured his heart into the UIC swim program and spent countless hours at the pool. I’ve never seen a coach dedicate so much time and energy into a team. His work ethic and honesty is what made my decision to move to Chicago for college an easy choice. He’s an irreplaceable coach and the administration should reinstate him immediately. They will never find a coach that trains, motivates and develops the swimmers the way Coach Paul did.
I just don't know that his record over the years can justify a reinstatement for any reason. There has been a great decline in both the quality of the men's and women's teams in recent years. I see potential in the talent of swimmers currently at the school and hopefully a staff change can utilize it. Best of luck to Paul in all of his future endeavors BUT YOU CAN'T STOP THE HYPE TRAIN!

As a parent of an UIC swimmer, I was impressed with Paul's dedication to his swimmers. He was always receptive to any parents concerns and spent many hours being a mentor and leader to the swimmers. To hold a coach responsible for actions of his athletes when not in his control or knowledge of the situation is a injustice to the swim program at UIC. Paul should be reinstated immediately.

Paul has been a great coach and the reason that UIC Swimming has grown so much over the past 13 years. I remember when the women's team had only 11 swimmers and the men's team has only 4 eligible swimmers in 2001-2002. To make such drastic changes for a program is a huge accomplishment. Coach Paul is what brings swimmers to UIC and the reason alumni come back.

Paul Moniak lives for swimming, I've never met a coach so dedicated to the sport of swimming. Paul expected the best from all of his student athletes and clearly hasn't been paid the respect he has entrusted. I hope that by signing this petition that we will be able to reinstate Paul's job. Thank you for everything, Paul!

Paul was an amazing coach during the 3 years i was a swimmer at UIC. Its a shame that he has been held responsible for the poor choices of the athletes. A coach can only do so much to keep his team inline. There are so many things that are out of his control and this is a perfect example of that. Paul is the most dedicated coach I have ever had the pleasure to have. He takes his job very seriously and only wants the best for his athletes and UIC athletics. He should be allowed to continue to be the head coach of the UIC swim program. Without him this program will never be the same.
