I also joined this petition out of shock at the USA Network’s decision to cancel Covert Affairs. Living in Australia, I have been a regular viewer of the show from the first season. However, when it was pushed back to a late night block to account for this country’s fascination with football and gruesome murder shows, this smart, edgy drama began to lose its audience. But many of us kept watching. Even when season four was not released on DVD here, I intentionally bought a US copy and a region-free DVD player just to watch this show. I’ve also already pre-ordered a copy of Season Five through Amazon. I know this may not mean much to the producers at the USA Network but, as many of us have pointed out here, television shows rely on viewers. We have been viewers of Covert Affairs for five seasons and, to speak frankly, to cancel the show with no recourse for the cliff-hanger ending is an insult to the USA Network’s viewers. Do not disregard our comments as naïve or just “another bunch of viewers whinging about a cancelled show”. We are not quixotic; we know all shows must come to an end. All we are asking is that the USA Network acknowledge that we, the viewers, deserve to see a proper Covert Affairs series finale. But, alas, it seems that one episode is too much for long-time viewers to ask of this network who emphasise their role as a leader in digital entertainment but all too quickly lose sight of this purpose in view of their bottom line.
