I've had the honor of teaching on the Roy P. Benavidez Elementary School located in the South San Antonio ISD. It is customary in Texas that there would only be one school with a name, therefore, maybe to name a Middle or Intermediate School after him would be better. God Bless his memory and God Bless America.

I am not a registered voter in the El Campo School District but I am from South Texas and recently watched a video about the amazing journey that this man had during his life. I am Active Duty Navy and have already shared his story with my fellow Sailors as well as my children who are 10 and 8. This is a Great way to honor him and all that he did for our country. I never knew him but I won't forget the speech that I watched and how captivating he was. I wish I was from El Campo so that I could sign this petition.

I do not live in that community but have learned of an effort currently underway regarding the renaming of Northside Elementary to MSG Roy P. Benavidez. The connection and history he's had to and with that public entity makes the greatest sense that this be the facility to be dedicated to and in honor of his name. Frankly I am appalled that there is no establishment in El Campo, of any kind for that matter, named after this war hero. This is long overdue and I measure my words expressing my bewilderment. It shouldn't be an "effort" to get this accomplished but should be a nothing less than a privilege to be able to do so. To have a son of your hometown not honored in said hometown of El Campo simply makes no sense.

I went to this school when I was a kid. How awesome to have it named after Uncle Roy.

I think this is a great idea and needs to happen!
