How the hell did Dr Patterson stand up and sing that school anthem every Friday and feel confident that he was 'being a man', doing the right thing. All those boys who needed his protection from the predators were left in the cold whilst people who walked on the quadrangle got a Detention! Dr Patterson, your values were wrong! I am sorry your life's work won't be remembered in memorial on this building, but you've proven yourself unfit to be awarded such an honour.

private schools in australia are the perfect breeding ground for this type of behaviour. The environment is perfect and the culture of most private boys schools is why it is accepted to continue by staff. Naive parents pay close to $30,000 per year for this unique experience and for this environment to continue. The schools are so out of date and will CONTINUE to be breeding grounds for monsters to thrive. If your son is in one of these schools get him out. No one is safe!! Why are so many private school teachers unmarried??? I went to a private school and so did the last five generations of my family. I will be going public all the way with my kids. It is not worth the risk. The system will not protect you and your kids are not safe. Most of the behaviour goes unreported and you would be horrified if you knew the truth...and that is what is open for most students to see...god only knows what goes on behind closed doors!!

I was Dux (in Humanities) of Knox in 1972 and my two sons went to the school as well. I am appalled at what has been revealed. Boys were punished--in the extreme---if caught smoking, drinking, or masturbating on school grounds yet unspeakable and much worse acts by school teachers were punished lightly if at all. Indeed, in most cases they were airbrushed away---but not for the students who suffered, many of whom still suffer. I will be the first to concede that Dr Paterson was in many ways a most competent and effective educator but there was clearly a moral blindness there---a darkness that comes close to amounting to moral bankruptcy. The Paterson Centre, so named, is an embarrassment to many and an insult to all who suffered as a result of the shenanigans--call them crimes---that occurred during this man's 29 years as headmaster.

It's sickening to hear Paterson revealed at the RC that he was more concern of gay teachers than paedophile teachers, how ignorant! That might go some way to explain why Knox has had such a dark few decades with this headmaster at its helm!

I will sign this petition in order to reflect my disgust long-standing disgust with Dr Paterson. However, I take issue with the notion that Knox has a set of values that could be more appropriately reflected by a new name. On the contrary, the very problem with Knox is that the name Paterson and what he stands for (admitted to or not) is an accurate reflection of the school's values. Knox as an institution is based upon a very strange notion of ethical behaviour in the first place. No wonder Paterson remained headmaster for so many years. Virile Agitur: try explaining to me what this motto means without resorting to outdated notions of manhood.

Ian Paterson's evidence revealed he was nothing more than the getaway driver for the criminal gang. My vote: rename it "Old Boys' Centre for Ethics and Business" after the men who had enough guts to stand up and put things right.

I am horrified to think that Paterson knowing allowed these monsters to pray on innocent boys. It was deliberately swept under the carpet to protect an image and sorry will never repair the damage. I was one of the lucky ones, my teachers were convicted and I boarded under Nisbetts so called "care"

my son went to Knox during these years, his class mate died due to judicial negligence. 2 perpetrators have left our shores to avoid further action. Disgusting creatures one given a new job by Doc Patterson instead of dismissal so change the name.
