We, the undersigned members of the Harlandale community — alumni, students, staff, parents, and supporters — respectfully request that the Harlandale Independent School District Board of Trustees consider renaming the Harlandale High School Gym in honor of the late Coach Sylvia Cardenas.

Coach Cardenas served the Harlandale High School community for over 30 years as a beloved volleyball coach, mentor, and role model. Her impact extended far beyond the court — she was a leader, motivator, and second mother to countless students who credit her with helping shape their futures through discipline, dedication, and compassion.

Renaming the gym to the "Sylvia Cardenas Gymnasium" would be a fitting tribute to her legacy and the generations of students she inspired. It would also serve as a lasting reminder of her dedication to Harlandale athletics and education.
