I would like to bring to your attention how destructive Artificial Intelligence is. Many teens are using chatbots in replacement to real human interaction. 72% of teens use AI, and about 1/3 say they find talking to chat bots more satisfying than human interactions. 18% said they talked to the bots because "they give good advice", 17% said they talk to chat bots because "They're always around to listen, 14% said they rely on the bots because "They won't judge me" and 12% said they feel comfortable telling the bots things they wouldn't tell their friends or family. As well, a medium size data center uses 110 million gallons of water a day. Every 100 word generative prompt uses about 1 bottle of water, which may not seem like much, but 34 million prompts are entered every day. AI is horrible for the environment. I am asking for your help to educate more staff and students about Artificial Intelligence, and discourage irresponsible uses of it. Whilst we do learn about AI in digital literacy, we are very much encouraged to use it(responsibly). We should be educating students on the risks of AI even more so. Some students may feel uncomfortable using AI to generate images and text(Because of the negative environmental impact) which is required in Digital Literacy. Today I am asking you to remove mandatory use of AI from Brunswick Junior high school curriculum. Thank you so much for your time.
