Shelby has so much to celebrate, but this part of our history is not to be proud of. Changing the name of Dixon Blvd and removing the confederate monument would be a step in the right moral direction. Keeping either of these two monuments will serve only to stifle progress and unity. Keeping these monuments will contradict words and promises of any local leaders who profess a commitment to progress and civil service. They have to go!
