Confederate statues and monuments on one hand, lends a false sense of entitlement and supremacy; and on the other hand hovers like a dark cloud of oppression and reminder of past and present sins of this city. The monument at the courthouse in Shelby, NC and other monuments must be removed in order for this county to move forward as one people. We are all entitled to equal justice, protection under the law and economic opportunities. Shelby is no exception! I also agree that the stretch of highway 74 that was named after Thomas Dixon Jr. should be renamed in the spirit of this new era.
