We don't need the headphone jack anymore. Everything works over bluetooth or the Lighting port. I think if the iPhone 7 will drop the headphone jack, all the other future Android phones will eventually drop the headphone jack too and no one will complain then.

I have not used the headphone jack on my phone for over 5 years. It is just another dust collecting hole that is hard to clean.
A simple (and free in box) lightning to 3.5mm adapter would solve legacy issues.

Apple could also easily create an affordable and user friendly bluetooth receiver for backwards compatibility with the old 3.5mm jack. Away with that annoying headphone cable!
