Although arrests are public record the Hillsborough County Sheriff office is providing a website that puts people in danger who are involved in: domestic disputes, stalking, or any situation that someone intends to hurt you. This website is not mandatory and they are under no obligation to provide it. If someone wants to see a Public record they should have to retrieve them physically or pay for the convenience of doing it online. There should be for safety some type of record that is kept on who is requesting or viewing your file. We are against using TAX dollars being used to pay for and maintain such a complex, high maintenance website that is being abused for other reason than the intention it was created for.

The following are some other critical reasons why this site should be taking down:

1. This site puts anyone involved in a domestic dispute or stalking in danger. The information listed on an arrest record includes your current address and current place of employment. Therefore, even if the violent person never knew of the arrest, just by Googling the persons name, this site will provide it for them along with their current appearance, address and place of employment.

2. It has become a revenue source for third party websites that will pull the image and post it in their database. The company then will optimize the information they have on you so when your name is searched on the Internet your mug shot will appear more easily. These companies will remove you for a price.

3. According to Florida Statue 943.0585. The court may only order expunction of a criminal history record pertaining to one arrest or one incident of alleged criminal activity. In some cases people are falsely arrested and everything they were charged with also dropped. These people should not fall under the criminal procedure to have their image removed. The Sheriffs office should remove their arrest photo immediately free of charge but these people still have to file the same expungement papers, pay the same cost associated with this process and wait just as long for the long process to be completed.

In summary this site along with others in the state of Florida put peoples lives in jeopardy and are only providing an unnecessary duplicate service. Your private information such as current residence and place of employment expose everyone to unnecessary dangers when available. The Internet is open to everyone in the world and can be used anonymously. At the very least any personal information on this site should be blocked out, a tracking system in place of people that are requesting to view your file and people that should have never been arrested in the first place immediately removed from the site at no cost.
