I aim to inform the public of this religious injustice, that serves in our public school everyday. Apparently this idea of separation of church and state does not oblige in our school system. For blind and unknowing of the true meaning of the pledge. The injustice of the phrase “under God” has gone on for too long.

During the cold war, the U.S pledge of allegiance was changed. The phrase “Under God.” was added to separate us from the religious aspect of the Communist. Now this phrase separates all the atheist students in public schools.

This phrase enrages students, and implies that in order to pledge yourself to this country, you must pledge yourself to a god. Which removes the line separating church and state.

During the pledge many atheist will not say the phrase, or simply won't stand for it at all. “We don't object to pledging to our country, but we do object to pledging to a religion.” Said by a student, during a protest against the pledge at Boulder high school in Colorado. Pledging to the country is justified, but we should not have to be represented under our no religious beliefs every day.

It is quite obvious that older teens who understand the true meaning of the pledge take a stand to not be represented under any form of religion. But younger students just blindly say it every day without understanding the true meaning of the pledge. This is an outrage, kids should not have to pledge themselves to any form of religion. They should only pledge to what they fully understand, and what they believe.

I believe that this issue should not only be addressed, but fully understood. I pledge allegiance to the united states, and to the republic which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Even those without a god.
