Remove the health focus requirement from the ID senior thesis project
A thesis project provides students a chance to steer their future career prospects in a direction that suits them best. At this critical juncture in our design education, it is more important than ever to distinguish and differentiate ourselves - to work in a manner that most accentuates our strongest abilities, convictions, and passions.
While the topic of health is one of great importance, scope, and relevance, it is by no means all-encompassing. There is no shortage of problems to be solved in the many other fields to which the Industrial Design skillset is applicable, whether that be materials, home goods, automotive design, or toys.
As a department that prides itself on producing a cohort diverse in skills, passions, and eventual career paths, it's imperative that we hold this value high by providing our students the opportunity to best represent themselves and find solutions to the problems they are most passionate about. Please reconsider the necessity of restricting our senior thesis project - we'll all thank you for it.
