This statue does not properly represent the emancipation of black Americans. And I believe it must come down. We need to do everything we can to to make Boston be at the forefront of this movement, to end the racial disparities that this country has put into place for centuries.

I've lived here almost 3 years and embarrassing to admit, I didn't know this statue existed. Even as am admirer of Abraham Lincoln, the depiction of the Freedman is awful. It's got to go.

I just... wow. This is real? No way. Get rid of it immediately. This was probably before Mussolini, but there is literal fascist symbolism in this with those axes in a bundle of sticks

Without knowing of your petition, my daughter last night said this statue had to go. It was the first I had even heard of it, but I agree it is offensive and should be removed.

Please take this statue down, the depiction of the slave in his knees I find offensive. He should be standing to show he is equal. The power dynamic here seems to imply he is free but still oppressed by white supremacy. Kneeling shows deference not equality.
