As a black woman, thank you for petitioning for the removal of this statute. It is offensive and it an awful reminder that my ancestors were treated inhumane and deemed lower than everyone else. Recognize my ancestors amazing contributions to America during slavery and beyond.

This is so demeaning. Free another man and pat him on the head like you’ve done a kindness for a trapped animal. How about free another man and shake his hand while standing. Please remove this ridiculous statue. It may have been ok 200 years ago when designed but it is not today.

I agree this depiction is "inappropriate." We could separate the two figures in the statue and use them to create a more positive narrative. Celebrate Lincoln and freedom, not slavery. Add a third figure to show the slave rising up to power and elevate it above the other two.

This statue is really messed up. I used to walk by it everyday and was really wigged out by it. Tory- you are right on point. It has GOT to to GO!!

Why not remove the offensive parts of the sculpture (the kneeling man and any verbal reference that is offensive) and hire an African-American sculptor to use that bronze to create a new sculpture that complements the old?
